“It is not only about each layer itself but also the space in between.”
Layering is a process of arranging something in layers.
When I place a metal wire or a metal sheet one layer after another, it is not only about each layer itself, but more interestingly it is the shadow and space between two layers.
With no doubts, the width or thickness of the layers creates a solid impression. But in order to emphasize the contrast of light and shadow, it is more important to attempt a proper placement of the layers so it can capture fully the reflection from light and delicately show the shadow under. Meanwhile, a distance between the layers as well generates a negative space, which in turn becomes part of the form of the jewellery piece.
